Moshe Grateful to Reach for a Dream

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Moshe was over the moon to recieve a laptop and a printer from Reach for a Dream. The King David schoolchildren raised the money to get it for Moshe. What a big smile. Moshe was given 3 wishes from Reach for a Dream. His 1st was a Ronaldo kit - all sweaty.. 2nd was the laptop and 3rd was to record a song in a studio. He got number 2. What a lucky boy.

His friend Kyle - got a Plasma screen TV for his room. His other friend Tumi - got a PSP and a TV.

The kids were treated like Kings by the King David Pupils. We were very impressed. Special thanks.

Reach for a Dream is always inviting the children on outings. Depending on the childrens bloods and whether they are in for chemo influences whether the kids can go.

Moshe was also invited together with Kyle and some of the other boys to hold up the flags at the cricket match last Sunday between SA and Bangladesh. The match was played in Benoni. Moshe held the Bangladesh and Kyle held the South African when the players went onto the field to sing their national anthems. They had a great day.

Bh today we went to the Donald Gordon and Moshe’s bloods were great. He is feeling good. What a brocha. Some of the kids at the hospital today were feeling tired and weak. Moshe is now chilling - listening to tapes and music. Has already done some Maths for today and will continue with his home schooling this afternoon. He is doing this every day now and is loving it.

Thank you for your continued healing, prayers and concern. Phone Moshe any time to ask how he is doing. He misses all his friends school and cannot wait to get back to school next year.

He has 2 more big chemos - next week and then 3 weeks later. Bh by the middle of December he will be over and then he will start maintenance. We look forward to having Moshe back in the swing. What a brocha that he is doing so well.

May all those having a difficult time in whichever areas find peace and health, calm and normalility. Amen.

Have a wonderful week and reach out to others. It makes such a difference.
We can see.

All our love

Ready for the Next Round…

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Weeks have passed and Baruch Hashem Moshe has been in hospital as scheduled. Not a single day of yontiff in hospital - what a brocha.

Baruch Hashem Moshe has been feeling strong. Who wold believe what he gets up to?! Jumping castle, giant slippery slide, and the most energetic Wi game of boxing for almost an hour. See all our photos in the previous post.

A special thank you to Moshe’s friends for calling and visiting even on chagim and shabbos to keep him entertained and out of trouble. Thanks for all the new card games he has been taught. If anyone knows of games besides elevens, presidents, stress, speed, rummy, patience… please send us the rules!

Moshe did have a slight hiccup in that BELIEVE IT OR NOT his brother Akiva who was immunised months ago got the dreaded chicken pox! We found out quickly and Moshe did have to go for an injection to prevent him from the pox for a few weeks. Hope his baby brother, Levi, who hasn’t yet been immunised, does NOT get the pox. That could mean trouble for Moshe.

His bloods were a bit low last week so we were hoping that by Monday (yesterday) they would be ok for his scheduled chemo. Barush Hashem they were ok and we are in! Yippee!

Be’ezrat Hashem only 3 big chemos left. Then maintenance…

Thank you to everyone for all the love, support, tefillot, friendship and understanding during this scary time. We ride the waves.

BH Moshe has continued to entertain us with meshugene cravings and song. A special thank you to all those who have satisfied Moshe with his cravings and needs.

Be’ezrat Hashem Moshe will have a good week. May you also have a blessed week.

Love,
The Altschuler Mishpocha

Moshe’s Kicking Off the New Year

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

BH Moshe has been doing fantastically. Bloods good. Energetic. Hair growing back - for now. He is full of sunshine, so accepting and understanding.

Moshe has been supported by his wonderful friends - visiting, phoning, making and bringing his favourite foods.Choclate cake is still number 1. Oy!!

He has 4 more big chemos left. Starts at 7am Monday morning. May have to drag him there asleep… BH he will be out of hospital in time for Yom Kippur. Dad will daven extra hard to make sure that they are home in time.

Thanks for checking Moshe’s site. DO NOT BE SHY! Leave a comment - Moshe loves to read them, especially when he’s in the hospital.

Shana Tovah!

Monday, September 29th, 2008

BARUSH HASHEM Moshe is defying chemo side effects. he is energised and full of spirit. His neshoma has faith and he BELIEVES. He knows he is on a path… Hashem’s path… not sure where he is heading although he takes it with faith, believing that it is all BH FINE AND GOOD and WILL BH be fine.

Chicken pox he wants to keep clear of… and he simply knows how to when it is going around.

He misses school ENORMOUSLY when he cannot go. He has private tutoring by Mom, Leanne (school work), Rivky (piano), Josh (guitar), Gilad (chumash) and many other tutoring offers. Thank you for ALL the care and support.

Moshe is also having as much fun as possible at home. Learning to enjoy reading, listening to story tapes, playing Rummy (card game), computer games and movies (of course).

One of Moshe’s best is ALL HIS FAVOURITE FOODS - Gary’s perfect hot sausages (that not even Mom can imitate), a few varieties of the most delicious chocolate cakes and Loren’s pasta with cheese and tomato sauce. Each taste is SMELLED to assess whether it is worth eating - so that you understand the radiotherapy can change his tastes, and as to the urgent cravings I think it is the chemo.

Moshe is having bloods on Monday and again on Friday, and then a big chemo next week on Monday. BH 3 big chemos after this.

Wishing you all ketiva v’chatima tovah. A year of brocha and hatslacha, health and peace. May we be guarded and guided in the ways of Hashem to grow closer to Hashem’s will.

Wishing complete health to ALL those who need special prayers. Amen.

With love,

Ezra, Jackie, Daniel, Benji, Moshe, Akiva and Levi

Whoo Hoo - Radiotherapy FINISHED!

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Hi everyone,

NEW UPDATE! Radiotherapy is FINISHED!!

Moshe celebrated with a burger and lots of tomato sauce, and his family of course. BH it went well. Moshe did not feel terrible pain from it.

Before the big chemo Moshe went quad biking at the REAL biking spot. He is now back to big chemo in hospital every 3rd week, and checking bloods every other Monday.

Today he came in with boerewors for a second breakfast. It was the only thing he wanted to eat. What a laugh Moshe is - he is taking it all in his stride and entertaining us still with his cravings. No chocolate cake today… shew! No sausages cooked in apricot jam either (warmed to perfection).

Right now he is being hydrated through his drip, relaxing in his room watchingNarnia while his friend Tumasang fron Botswana is playing SPS. BH kids are beatiful.

Thank you for all the davening and tehillim. Moshe has been guarded for CERTAIN. May he recover COMPLETELY. Amen.

Have a beautiful week.
With all our love,

Ezra, Jackie and boys

Sunday Night Learning Programme

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Hi Everyone,

This picture is of Moshe with all his Manchester United goods. He loves it as you can see.

Last Sunday night we started our 4 week learning program in the merit of a refuah shleima for Moshe.

It was wonderful of everyone to turn up for the learning. About 20 men and 15 women arrived and were inspired by great shiurim from Rabbi and Rebbetzin Steinhaus.

Quite a few people said they could only start coming next week so we are expecting an even bigger turnout next week. Is that not awesome?

Moshe has now had 18 radiotherapy sessions with only 10 remaining after which he will return to chemo treatments.

We will still post some photos of Moshe enjoying himself at his brother Benji’s barmi last week. I am waiting for the photos and then will tell you a bit more of Moshe’s escapades at the barmi. You will be quite impressed. Keep watching the site for more updates.

Radiotherapy Treatments & Pics

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Here are some pictures of Moshe having his radiation therapy treatments. You can see how the mask is fitted over his face.

The third picture is Moshe enjoying a sucker in the lift after his treatment. :-) And the fourth picture is of Moshe playing on the Wii whilst having chemo.

Update from Monday 28th July

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Hi,

Here is an update on Moshe. Baruch Hashem he is good. He had a temperature on Friday and was almost kept in hospital for Shabbos. The doctor gave him antibiotics to take home.

On Monday he had bloods, a chemo injection and radiotherapy. His haemoglobin is a bit low so he is having a blood transfusion now. Then off to Sandton Oncology for some quick radiotherapy and then home.

He is doing well. If he can get up in time we will PG go in to school on Wednesday and then there will be more radiotherapy. This is daily for the next six weeks and then back on a drip for chemotherapy in the hospital…..and so the road goes.

He has got a great spirit. He almost met the Manchester United team last week. Any keen soccer card collectors should call Moshe to swap with him.

Also you are welcome to check his website @ www.moshealtschuler.com He loves to read the messages on his site. Go in and have fun.

Take care

Love Jackie

Wednesday Night… and Good News!

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Hi All,

It’s Wednesday night. Moshe is finishing this week’s heavy chemo at about midnight. He has done well although today he felt very nauseus. He is feeling better now and ate muffins dipped in milk.

The doctors gave us very good news yesterday. The results of the CT scan revealed that the small pieces of the malignant polyp that were left in the back of his nasal passage have with Hashem’s guidence melted away under the chemotherapy.

This was the first marker to evaluate the effectiveness of the chemo on Moshe’s condition. Thank God the chemo is working as was hoped and with the radiotherapy, the chemo and other treatments that follow, the doctors are hoping with Hashem’s help to cure the cancer and erase any chance of it returning.

We are ecstatic with this positive development and can only thank all of you for praying so hard and diligently for a refuah shleima for our Moshe.

This news strengthens our resolve and knowledge that it is through our prayers that Hashem is responding and giving a refuah shleima to Moshe.

Please continue to daven for our boy, Moshe Yair ben Beyla Tanya, for a refuah shleima as we can see that Hashem is listening to all of our prayers.

Thank you again.

Next Big Chemo, Then Radiotherapy Starts

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

Hi all,

Thanks for all the comments and emails. Moshe loves them and checks at least 3 times a day to see if messages were left for him. It’s great so please keep them coming.

Tomorrow (Monday) Moshe has his next heavy chemo session. He will be in for 3 or 4 days depending on how he is doing and we pray that he will have as few bad side effects as he has had during the last 3 heavy sessions.

After this week’s chemo we enter the 2nd phase of his treatment, i.e. radiotherapy. This will consist of 5 or 6 weeks of 5 - 10 minute sessions 5 days a week.

The radiotherapy is very different to the chemo and can have various side effects so please can we all continue to pray that Moshe will suffer no bad side effects in or after any of his future treatments, and that he may be granted a complete recovery, a refuah sheleima from Hashem.

Please remember to look at the Mitzvah programmes we have launched in the merit of a refuah sheleima for our dear Moshe. Please look at the links at the top right hand side of this page and click on the links below “Mitzvah Projects”.

A reminder, Moshe’s Hebrew name is Moshe Yair Ben Baila Tanya.

Thanks again for the incredible comfort you all continue to shower us with.

Love,
The Altschulers
