The Manchester United Story

July 25th, 2008

Good day all,

Something happened yesterday which makes us very proud of our dear son Moshe.

Yesterday we received a call from Reach for a Dream South Africa. They called to tell us they had 2 tickets available to meet the Manchester United Soccer team (this is the team that Moshe supports in the English soccer league).

They wanted to give Moshe one of these tickets which is like gold. What an opportunity to meet these great players face to face and get his soccer kit signed by the whole Manchester team! Truly a great opportunity and a dream for sports-loving boys.

We mentioned it to Moshe and immediately his eyes lit up and got so excited.

We said Moshe would love to meet the team and asked when and where we should go to meet them.

The lady on the other side of the telephone line said, “4.30pm Friday afternoon at Monte Casino”. Yes, that time is 45 minutes before Shabbat comes in and Monte Casino is 35 minutes from our house!

Moshe immediately understood and said to us, “Ok, so I cant go because we cant get back before Shabbat. It really does not matter”. And with that he carried on with what he was doing beforehand.

He still continues to be a Manchester United supporter.

He truly continues to set an example to us of a wonderful and glowing Jew. SHEKOACH MOSHE!

Shabbat Shalom,

Wednesday Night… and Good News!

July 16th, 2008

Hi All,

It’s Wednesday night. Moshe is finishing this week’s heavy chemo at about midnight. He has done well although today he felt very nauseus. He is feeling better now and ate muffins dipped in milk.

The doctors gave us very good news yesterday. The results of the CT scan revealed that the small pieces of the malignant polyp that were left in the back of his nasal passage have with Hashem’s guidence melted away under the chemotherapy.

This was the first marker to evaluate the effectiveness of the chemo on Moshe’s condition. Thank God the chemo is working as was hoped and with the radiotherapy, the chemo and other treatments that follow, the doctors are hoping with Hashem’s help to cure the cancer and erase any chance of it returning.

We are ecstatic with this positive development and can only thank all of you for praying so hard and diligently for a refuah shleima for our Moshe.

This news strengthens our resolve and knowledge that it is through our prayers that Hashem is responding and giving a refuah shleima to Moshe.

Please continue to daven for our boy, Moshe Yair ben Beyla Tanya, for a refuah shleima as we can see that Hashem is listening to all of our prayers.

Thank you again.

Love
The Altschulers

Next Big Chemo, Then Radiotherapy Starts

July 13th, 2008

Hi all,

Thanks for all the comments and emails. Moshe loves them and checks at least 3 times a day to see if messages were left for him. It’s great so please keep them coming.

Tomorrow (Monday) Moshe has his next heavy chemo session. He will be in for 3 or 4 days depending on how he is doing and we pray that he will have as few bad side effects as he has had during the last 3 heavy sessions.

After this week’s chemo we enter the 2nd phase of his treatment, i.e. radiotherapy. This will consist of 5 or 6 weeks of 5 – 10 minute sessions 5 days a week.

The radiotherapy is very different to the chemo and can have various side effects so please can we all continue to pray that Moshe will suffer no bad side effects in or after any of his future treatments, and that he may be granted a complete recovery, a refuah sheleima from Hashem.

Please remember to look at the Mitzvah programmes we have launched in the merit of a refuah sheleima for our dear Moshe. Please look at the links at the top right hand side of this page and click on the links below “Mitzvah Projects”.

A reminder, Moshe’s Hebrew name is Moshe Yair Ben Baila Tanya.

Thanks again for the incredible comfort you all continue to shower us with.

Love,
The Altschulers

Preparing for Radiotherapy

Moshe At the Dentist before radiation Treatment

Moshe at the Dentist pre Radiation Therapy
Radiation therapy can affect one’s teeth, so it’s very important to get good dental care and for Moshe to look after his teeth during the treatment process.

Making the Mask Used in Radiotherapy

Making the Mask Used in Radiotherapy
A mask is used in radiation therapy for 2 reasons: 1) to ensure radiation treatment is delivered accurately to the exact spot; and 2) to keep the head still for the duration of the radiation treatment.
